How To Get Saved — What Must I Do To Be Saved?

This is the most important question any person can ever ask. The Philippian jailer asked the Apostle Paul this very question in Acts 16:30 KJV: "Sirs, what must I do to be saved?" Paul's answer was simple and clear: "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved." ~ Acts 16:31 KJV

Step 1 — Admit You Are A Sinner

The first step to getting saved is admitting that you are a sinner. Every person who has ever lived — except Jesus Christ — has sinned against God.

"For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;" ~ Romans 3:23 KJV

"As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:" ~ Romans 3:10 KJV

Sin is defined in the Bible as the transgression of God's law. God is perfect and holy, and His standard is perfection. Since no person is perfect, every person is a sinner before God.

Step 2 — Understand The Penalty For Sin

Sin has a penalty. God is just and cannot overlook sin. The Bible is clear about what happens to those who die in their sins:

"For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." ~ Romans 6:23 KJV

"And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death." ~ Revelation 20:14 KJV

The penalty for sin is eternal separation from God in the Lake of Fire. This is why salvation is so urgent and so important.

Step 3 — Believe That Jesus Christ Paid Your Penalty

Here is the greatest news in the history of the world: God loves you so much that He sent His only Son, Jesus Christ, to pay the penalty for your sins. Jesus lived a perfect, sinless life, was crucified on the cross, bearing all of your sins, died, was buried, and rose again three days later.

"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." ~ John 3:16 KJV

"But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." ~ Romans 5:8 KJV

"For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:" ~ 1 Corinthians 15:3-4 KJV

Step 4 — Place Your Faith In Jesus Christ Alone

To be saved, you must place your complete faith and trust in Jesus Christ — not in your good works, not in your church attendance, not in your baptism, not in anything you do. Salvation is entirely a gift from God received by faith alone.

"For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast." ~ Ephesians 2:8-9 KJV

"Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me." ~ John 14:6 KJV

There is only one way to heaven — through Jesus Christ. Not through religion, not through good deeds, not through any other path.

How Do I Know I Am Saved?

This is one of the most common questions Christians ask. The good news is that the Bible gives us absolute certainty about our salvation — not based on how we feel, but based on God's promise.

"Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life." ~ John 6:47 KJV

"And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand." ~ John 10:28 KJV

"These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life..." ~ 1 John 5:13 KJV

The moment you place your faith in Jesus Christ, you have eternal life. It is not something you can lose. God's promise is your assurance — not your feelings, not your behavior, not your church membership.

Can I Lose My Salvation?

No. The Bible is absolutely clear that salvation cannot be lost. Once you are saved, you are always saved. This is called Eternal Security — the doctrine that every true believer is eternally secure in Jesus Christ.

"For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord." ~ Romans 8:38-39 KJV

"My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand." ~ John 10:27-28 KJV

Are You Ready To Get Saved?

Salvation requires no special prayer, no ritual, and no religious ceremony. Right now, wherever you are, you can be saved by simply believing the Gospel of Jesus Christ from your heart — that Jesus died for your sins, was buried, and rose again. That is it. That is all God requires.

"Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life." ~ John 6:47 KJV

The moment you place your complete faith and trust in Jesus Christ alone as the only payment for your sins, you are saved — eternally and forever. Not because of anything you said or did, but because of what Jesus Christ did for you on the cross.
